ADOLESCENT SOCIALIZATION CLASSES

Class Description

The Adolescent Socialization class is for puppies between the ages of 4 and 9 months that either missed the Puppy Socialization class or they need additional socialization, due to continued fearful behavior.

Why Adolescent Socialization is Important

Socialization is the positive exposure to the world to desensitize and create positive associations with everything we expect a dog to be exposed to throughout its life. Dogs go through two socialization periods in their life, from birth to 12 weeks old, and sometime between 6 and 14 months of age. The first socialization period is the most critical. However, if socialization stops after the first socialization period, dogs can “de-socialize” and become fearful, and thus, more likely to exhibit aggression. Therefore, it is extremely important to socialize a dog until they are two years old.
